Flying like a 5, landing like a 4

The hybrid was supposed to replace a long iron that would not hold. In thin air it often becomes the same problem with a friendlier name. We write both arrivals on the same line so the story has to pick one.

The usual lie

A loft stamp is not a green

A 22° hybrid from a coastal fitting will hang here and arrive shallow. Off a tight West Mesa lie it then skids. Golfers blame bounce they do not have. Bounce is not the first sentence. Land angle is. Ellis recuts loft after the rail agrees; he does not recut because the catalog said 21° looks modern.

If the hybrid is already honest and the miss is a fat from a steep entry, that is a lesson, not a head. We will say that and keep your money for a day when the motion repeats.

Bring the long iron it replaced. If you left that iron in a garage in 2019, say so — we will still map the hybrid, but the comparison will be a ghost and we will label it as such on the sheet.
